Calvary Is My Church Home
I joined Calvary in 1979. It’s the church I’ve
belonged to longest. I relocated from Summit in 1997 and now have a
21-mile commute. When asked why I still come to Calvary, I answer that
it’s my church home. I feel connected to Calvary. It adds to my life. This
is largely because of the people. I feel committed to the fellowship here.
I was initially involved
as a choir member and sang for 15 years. I joined the Book Group in 1990.
It has been intellectually stimulating and meaningful in terms of
theology. The quality of the books has been excellent and I’ve found the
experience important in opening my mind. I’ve learned a lot from our adult
forums and gotten to know people.
If you’re asked to do
something and you’re able to do it, I’ve always felt you should do it. I
was asked to join vestry. That was when I really had my eyes opened as to
how Calvary survives and prospers. When I participated in stewardship
visits, I always felt that I gained representing our church to people and
taking their concerns back.
I have always been a
believer in the tithe. Calvary receives a part. I found that I have never
wanted for anything. As a young person I learned that I never missed it
when I gave money when there was an opportunity. Giving my money and my
prayers lets me be a part of the shared concern for the world.
