Volunteers
The Parish Office supports
Calvary’s ministries and is the center of activity during the week.
The church relies on volunteers to assist the Parish Administrator in
many tasks and to cover the office when the P.A. is absent. Some of the
tasks performed by volunteers:
Receptionist:
Answer telephones, take messages, and greet visitors; this is usually a
half-day assignment. Some volunteers have a weekly or bi-weekly
commitment to do this. Others are on call, and usually get a week’s
notice for when they’re needed.
Canticle
Assembly Crew: Once a month for about two hours, a crew of
6 – 10 prepare the newsletter for mailing. This includes
stuffing, folding, sealing, labeling, sorting and counting pieces.
Postal
Emergency Workers (PEWs): Other church mailings are packaged
in take-home kits, 100 pieces of mail or less. Volunteers available on
short notice can pick up a kit from the Parish Office, and make a family
project of folding letters, stuffing, sealing, labeling and stamping
envelopes or post cards. The volunteer is responsible for getting the
mail to the Post Office, in a one- or two-day turnaround.
Computer
(Lite) Helpers: Volunteers with computer skills, including MS
Word, can assist the P.A. in a number of ways, for example: record
address changes in the membership database; write letters to visitors;
prepare the weekly intercessory prayer list; order supplies online.
Training is provided.
General Office Help:
Photocopying; maintaining bulletin boards and the literature carousel;
preparing reminder postcards are short-term tasks performed by
volunteers who make a long-term commitment.
