The Organ at Calvary
Music at Calvary has a tradition dating back at least as far as 1896.
When this, our third church, celebrated its first
service on Easter, 1896, a new pipe organ was in place to lead the music.

In virtually every service, with the
exception of an occasional private baptism or small chapel service, the
organ is the instrument that leads the congregation in song, accompanies
choirs and soloists, and provides music aimed at raising our spirits,
calming our souls, easing our griefs, celebrating our triumphs. This has
long been the role of the organ in Episcopal worship practice, no more
so than at Calvary. more

ensemble sponsored by the Summit Junior League, uses our choir room for
rehearsals. The Larks are a community service organization, performing
many concerts each year at venues such as retirement and nursing homes.
This summer, for the first time, Calvary became host rehearsal space for
the Chamber Orchestra of the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra,
which boasts of a membership spanning the ages from pre-teen to the
nineties
Support for Music at Calvary
Choir Guild
The costs of maintaining a
music program like Calvary’s are considerable. The purchase of a
single anthem with enough copies for each chorister can run as high as
$80-$100, that of a large choral work to several hundred dollars.
Vestments, choir awards, music folders, maintenance and tuning of the
organ and pianos, the hiring of soloists and substitute organists, all
add to the thousands of dollars needed each year just to keep the
program afloat.
The Choir Guild supports Calvary’s choirs with funds to buy its vestments. The
Guild’s main fundraiser is the sale of boxed lunches for the Women of
Calvary’s Festival of Homes. Choir members and their parents are
automatically members. Contact: Carol
